Phyllis Bennis Talks to Austin Activists on Strategies to End the Israeli Occupation
Phyllis Bennis is a Fellow of the Institute for Policy Studies in Washington. She appears as commentator/analyst on PBS, NPR, BBC, and CBC. She's the author of "Before & After: U.S. Foreign Policy and the September 11th Crisis" and "Calling the Shots: How Washington Dominates Today's UN." Her latest books are "Understanding the Palestinian-Israeli Conflict" and "Challenging Empire."
Phyllis Bennis is not new to the political scene. Her knowledge of Arabic language and culture go hand in hand with her in depth understanding of Middle East politics.
On a humid, steamy, summer evening on July 10 in Austin, Bennis enjoyed a (mostly) vegetarian feast with local Austinites. She shared her analysis of how the deadly raid on the Mavi Maramara by the Israeli Navy has changed the public opinion so dramatically in our nation, and in Israel.

Norman Finkelstein - Gaza Massacre - Alternative Radio
Gaza is often described as the largest open-air prison in the world. It
may be the most densely populated area on earth. Its 1.5 million
Palestinians live in a narrow strip with a total area of 139 sq miles
or 360 square kilometers. In 2005 Israel dismantled its colonies and
withdrew its military forces but retained control over Gaza's land, sea
and airspace. Two years later Hamas took political control of Gaza.
Citing rocket attacks, Israel imposed a blockade. The International
Committee of the Red Cross describes the blockade as "collective
punishment" and a violation of international law. There are crippling
shortages. Gaza is plagued by frequent power cuts, a ruined economy,
and a collapsed health care system. 80 per cent of Gazans lack access
to clean water. Israel insists it provides enough "humanitarian aid" to
cover Gaza's basic needs.

Nuclear Issues - Think Outside the Bomb National Tour - Austin, TX
came to Austin to spread awareness of the devastating effect of the
nuclear industry and to build a movement for nuclear abolition. Despite
receiving a noble prize for his vision of a nuclear-free world, Obama's
Administration proposes to spend $180 billion to quadruple the US
nuclear weapons building capacity. Obama's proposal will do nothing to
help communities devastated by years of uranium mining and processing,
nuclear power and weapons production, or its deadly waste.
This program featured folk music by Rebecca Riley and local perspectives on nuclear concerns from UT journalism professor and Third Coast Activist board member Robert Jensen as well as Karen Hadden of the SEED Coalition.
This is a ZGraphix production.
Produced by Jeff Zavala.

Remembering fallen comrades:
Workers demand better wages & safer conditions
AUSTIN
-- Luxury condos were the backdrop for two protests yesterday, April
28, in Austin. The Workers Defense Project, also known as Proyecto Defensa Laboral, brought 120 workers and supporters into the streets at two different sites demanding wages and safe working conditions.
“Three
of my co-workers were killed, and the rest of us are still owed our
money. When is it enough?” said Gumercindo Rodriquez, who performed
plaster work at 21 Rio and Gables Park Plaza. Gumercindo, along with
two dozen other workers are owed over $120,000 in wages by a
Dallas-based contractor, GMI (Greater Metroplex Interiors).

More
than 30 people carried picket signs in front of the Gateway Shopping

Beauty for refusing to take Ahava Dead Sea cosmetics off their shelves.
The
Austin protests, which began the previous week at the Sunset Valley

In Washington DC on March 20th, 2010 as part of the National
March on Washington DC, Ramsey Clark spoke about how the imperial
presidency of America is destroying any chance for peace in the world
and what we can do to change that. Then Cindy Sheehan talks about how
to bring about real change and quotes Mario Savio from the 60s in his
speech about putting your body upon the gears and making the war
