My Toilet Bowl is Bugged! (Redux)
by Phil Polizatto, WWH/CJE - The Water Department came by the other day to install a small metering device under the lip of my toilet bowl. When I asked the reason, he said it would provide useful data concerning the amount of water I use, but I was suspicious. He tried to allay my concern by saying it would be useful not only to the Water Department, but to me as well. I might conserve more water after learning how much I really use and thereby have the incentive to flush less. He also warned me that if I tampered with it, it would set off an alarm at the Department’s headquarters, and they would immediately come out to see what was wrong. So not to worry. It was for my own good.

World News With An Attitude
Obama Administration Says President Can Use Lethal Force Against Americans on US Soil
WS – Is this a budget decision to save money by eliminating the cost of renditioning Americans to other countries and Guantanamo bay? – He’s brilliant!
Yes, the president does have the authority to use military force against American citizens on US soil—but only in “an extraordinary circumstance,” Attorney General Eric Holder said in a letter to Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) on Tuesday.
“The US Attorney General’s refusal to rule out the possibility of drone strikes on American citizens and on American soil is more than frightening,” Paul said Tuesday. “It is an affront the constitutional due process rights of all Americans.”
Last month, Paul threatened to filibuster the nomination of John Brennan, Obama’s pick to head the CIA, “until he answers the question of whether or not the president can kill American citizens through the drone strike program on US soil.” Tuesday, Brennan told Paul that “the agency I have been nominated to lead does not conduct lethal operations inside the United States—nor does it have any authority to do so.” Brennan said that the Justice Department would answer Paul’s question about whether Americans could be targeted for lethal strikes on US soil.

Supreme Court Rejects Lawsuit Challenging Warrantless Surveillance
WS – I had a dream that the Supreme Court Justices were arrested for stalking. Then I awoke to this…
Unless you can prove you’re being surveilled in a program the government keeps secret, you have no right to sue.
In a 5-4 vote, the Supreme Court on Tuesday threw out a lawsuit challenging the US government’s warrantless surveillance powers on the grounds that the plaintiffs do not have “standing.”
Justices Samuel Alito, Anthony Kennedy, Antonin Scalia, Clarence Thomas, and Chief Justice John Roberts concluded that the plaintiffs cannot sue the government for the 2008 expansion of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) because they can’t prove the law directly effects them.
The FISA Amendments Act of 2008 authorized broad, warrantless surveillance of Americans’ international communications, checked only by a secretive Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court that doesn’t make it’s activities and procedures available to the public.
Even though the government has acknowledged that the secretive program has exceeded its legal limits, violating Americans’ Fourth Amendment constitutional rights, the majority decision on Tuesday rejected the notion that a group of American lawyers, journalists and rights organizations have any standing to challenge it. 6 Months Prison for Presenting a Petition
My name is Brian Terrell. I'm co-coordinator of a group called Voices for Creative Nonviolence. We support the petition to ban drones organized by RootsAction. http://act.rootsaction.org/p/dia/action/public/?action_KEY=6180
On November 30th I report for six months in a federal prison in Yankton, S.D., as a result of protesting drones.
The appearance of war being made easy by drones is resulting in more war. In Afghanistan, Pakistan, Yemen, Somalia, and in places we don't know about, in places where we are not at war, we're sending these unmanned pilotless airplanes into foreign air space to hunt down people who've been accused of crimes only in the private court of the administration. They're hunted down and killed along with anybody who might be in the immediate vicinity.
Drones are creating new wars rather than scaling down old ones. Drone pilots in Afghanistan have been targeted and killed. Drone pilots in the United States suffer PTSD at higher rates than real pilots.
Drone victims are 98% innocent civilians according to the recent Stanford/NYU study. The other 2% are targeted victims of murder without charge, trial, due process, or in many cases even knowing the target's name.
Drones buzzing over houses traumatize children before they kill them. That those children are (in most cases) not American hardly diminishes the immorality.
Drones are rapidly being developed and deployed by other nations. Would you support the equal right of other nations to kill with drones in this country? And if not, why not? And how can that thinking not apply to U.S. policy as well?

The Fiscal Cliff & Our Reality
The Fiscal Cliff and Our Reality.
A presentation followed by general discussion.
First Unitarian Universalist Church. 5212 S. Claiborne Avenue. New Orleans.
Since Election 2012 the “fiscal cliff” has emerged as the dominant issue of public discourse in this country. The President and the Congress agree that something must be done to prevent the U.S. from going over the fiscal cliff. The talking heads of the corporate media maintain that the only way the U.S. Government can avoid going over the fiscal cliff is through “shared sacrifices” by rich and poor alike in the name of getting America’s fiscal house in order.
The fiscal cliff debate raises questions of profound importance to the 99 percent. What is the fiscal cliff? How does downsizing “entitlements” in the pursuit of lower public debt really affect the 99 percent? Is what’s presented as “shared sacrifice” really shared in any meaningful sense of the word?
Watch and contribute to public discussion of the fiscal cliff issue from a 99 percent perspective

#S17 #OWS Birthday Party
One year ago a small group of predominantly Anarchists sparked a horizontally organized movement to level the playing field in the game of Corporations -vs- The People of the United States. Today we celebrated our success and contemplated our future. We licked old wounds and created new ones. We turned a critical eye to the process that has guided us and acknowledged it's short comings so that our second year of existence will be one of effectiveness even if it means dropping the verb. To Occupy.

#OWS S15 Pedestrian Bloc
500 or more Occupy revelers march from Washington Square Park to their former home in Zucotti to kick off the Occupied Anniversary Party. 26 were arrested mostly through snatch and grab terrorist tactics. Those arrested had done nothing wrong, were walking peacefully on the sidewalk with their friends. Squads of terrorists pushed through the peaceful crowd to man handle and steal people.
