www.indiegogo.com For over a decade subMedia has been covering resistance movements from around the world. Our efforts have taken us to Mexico, Japan, Europe, Australia, New Zealand and all over North America. Our mission is to connect with the fighters on the ground and bring you the stories of those who choose to join the resistance. In our next report, we take you inside the Quebec student strike, where massive street demonstrations escalated into continuous militant actions which lead to a repressive anti protest law and a generalized social strike. Street Politics 101 Consider supporting non-corporate, crowd funded, radical, movement driven media. You can view our past crowd funded reports on the links on the screen.
RAMPS pulled off the largest MTR direct action to date against the largest mountain top removal site in WV on Saturday. The Hobet Surface Mine was shut down for about 3 hours through a series of coordinated diversions, lock downs, tree-sits and banner drops. It has been reported that this was the only mine in WV without beefed up security in anticipation of the publicly announced action. Hobet was apparently too big & scary to imagine that Tree Huggers would have the balls to walk onto their site. The Police arrested about 25 people including atleast 3 credentialed press with total bail set at over a 1/2 million dollars. WV resident Dustin Steele has reportedly been beaten in jail and is being denied medical attention.

Today, hundreds of us will march onto a strip mine in West Virginia and shut it down. Concerned community members and activists are preparing to take nonviolent direct action to do what the politicians, the regulators and the courts have been unwilling to do: to defend the land and the people; to stop strip mining.

I am not a lawyer, nor do i wish to be. However, it is important to address the issue of how not to get yourself, your friends, your family, or loved ones arrested.
It is important to know your rights and know how to defend them, just in case the authorities want to dupe you into framing yourself or others, in order to secure an arrest. Here in the United States we have rights that are built into our constitution, the Fourth Amendment says that, "the right of the people to be secure against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated,” and the Fifth Amendment says that, "no person . . . shall be compelled in any criminal case to be a witness against himself."
When you are stopped by the authorities, you must identify yourself, and lying to them in this regard will only be trouble in the long run. So identify yourself, but after that, remain silent. If you are in a vehicle, you do not have to roll your windows all the way down and probably shouldn't. If you are asked to step out of your vehicle, make sure your keys are out of the ignition, all windows are up, and lock your vehicle behind you. It is a good idea to always have your vehicle, motor home, r.v. or bus closed and locked when you are not in it. This is because leaving these things open implies consent for entry... and implied consent is sticky territory.
On Earth Day, April 22, 2012, activists from around the Bay Area marched from a North Berkeley Park and into Gill Tract, a 10-acre plot of land owned by the Regents of the University of California. The University of California plans to develop the tract, which had previously been actively used for agriculture, but has been under utilized in recent years.
