June 5 protest while mayor Bloomberg bigwigs were having a party nearby at Hotel W. Protesters oppose plans to turn the historic Union Sq pavilion into a fancy restaurant in a neighborhood where there are already 150 restaurants. They also oppose any reduction of the space on the north side of the park traditionall reserved for free speech assembly. A compromise plan presented by Rosie Mendez was not well received/
