NEW YORK, September 6, 2012--During an interview at the evening rally protesting the construction of the Spectra Pipeline at Gansevoort and West Side Highway in the West Village, Clare Donohue, a founder of Sane Energy Project, explains the current regulatory status of the pipeline. Although FERC, the Federal Energy Regulatory Agency has approved construction, which is ongoing, environmentalists have requested a rehearing petition on the grounds that approval was arbitrary and capricious. Sane Energy Project founded in January 2011, has vigorously opposed the pipeline. The pipeline will deliver fracked gas from the Marcellus Shale upstate to link up with the Con Edison grid. It will emerge right next to the new downtown Whitney Museum, now under construction and in the vicinity of a children's playground. Occupy the Pipeline, started a few weeks ago as an outgrowth of Occupy Environmental Solidarity, organized the two rallies today. and the picnic on Sunday; see other videos on this channel.
