The Following Statement was released minutes ago regarding this June 2014 incident. When asked for copies of these reports, pictures and videos, I was told the reports are not going to be released and are for OMI (internalt affairs) use only. Ariel Lawther, the woman arrested and assaulted by the officer declined comment but referred me to her lawyer who was unavailable when I called. (Left a message)
STATEMENT BY CITY SOLICITOR LOURDES SANCHEZ-RIDGE ON FINDINGS IN PRIDEFEST PARADE ARREST
PITTSBURGH, PA - “The city promised a fair and thorough investigation of a June 15arrest at the PrideFest parade. That investigation is now completed, and a final report by the Office of Municipal Investigations, including an analysis completed by an independent consultant, has determined that the officer involved did not use excessive force.
This administration is dedicated to objectivity, and objective reviews of the entirety of the evidence may not always reveal what one video, one photograph, or one statement might reveal alone. While OMI exonerated the officer in this case, it also obtained an independent third-party use of force review by an outside agency that arrived at the same conclusion. It will be city policy from this point forward to seek third-party analysis in all excessive force investigations, just as we did in this case.
Under city law, it is the responsibility of OMI to investigate allegations of employee misconduct, including allegations of police misconduct, and provide the results of their investigations to city leaders.
In this video, a man commits suicide by cop in Riverview, Mo about 15 minutes away from Ferguson, Mo.
The man supposedly was mentally unstable and had just stolen 2 cans or bottles of soda from a store.
In the video, the man doesn't have a gun AND begs police to kill him. POLICE SAY THE MAN PULLES A KNIFE OUT OF HIS RIGHT HOODIE POCKET AND KEPT WALKING TOWARDS THEM WHEN THEY OPENED FIRE.
The video is hard to tell if he did have a knife or not.
He was shot 9 times
In this 3 Minute amateur video taken at the Pittsburgh Pridefest, we see members of the gay community in a spirited debate with biggoted religious protesters who showed up to preach "the word of god."
In the video we see Pittsburgh Police Officer Sourouth Chatterji, a 2 year officer and military veteran standing off to the side of the protesters with his arms crossed. Near the end of the video we see Chatterji come thru the crowd to grab Ariel Lawther (22 years old) for an unknow reason, throw her down to the ground, and when she stands up, Officer Chatterji begins to punch the woman and arrest her for what he claims is aggravated assault, and resisiting arrest. The video doesn't show any of these supposed criminal acts, but Chatterji maintains in his criminal complaint that Lawther was fighting with these biggots earlier in the day and during her arrest began to punch and kick him in the groin causing the officer to "fear for his own safety" warranting the use of excessive force to distract the woman so he could subdue and arrest her.
Pittsburgh Mayor Peduto has launched an investigation into the incident as well as The Pittsburgh Citizen's Police Review Board.
Officer Chatterji has been placed on 30 day desk duty pending the investigation.
Friends of Catterji on Facebook told me they don;t appreciate a decorated military officer being insulted in the media, but this video clearly speaks for itself.
Miss Lawther doesn;t have an attorney at this time and has not responded to requests for comments.
The teenage amateur videographer who shot this video had no comment on the subject following giving (or selling) this video to local tv staions KDKA, WPXI and WTAE.
This is yet another Pittsburgh police incident in a long line of documented patterns of Police Misconduct.
was hanging with another journalist walking thru southside in Pittsburgh to head to a bar for last call. we come upon an arrest in progress, reasons unknown.
multiple officers. 2 cops on the suspect in custody i witness a knee shot to the guy's head, and a cop going to grab super pepper spray from his trunk
said officer with the mace shoves an innocent bystander walking by trying to get out of the way. another cop shoves a man outside of a bar sees me and my camera and comes up to it yells his name and badge number (him and i have had dealings b4) then walks away to threaten someone else with arrest.
a 3rd cop approaches near me and then triles to shine his light in my camera lense (he failed btw)
my friend and i are about to walk away when my arm holding the camera is pulled toward the end of the vid...by a 4th cop who also he way i was holding the cam, made me hit the record button thus shutting my camera off.
my press credentials were displayed the entire time.
