The Narcicyst Freestyle - Live at Southwestern University
Yassin A.K.A The Narcicyst is a multi-media master who will be performing LIVE at Southwestern. From sound engineering and sound design for film, to lyric writing and book publishing, Yassin has been involved in multi-leveled production work of all mediums in the industry. He has directed videos and written scripts, engaged in songwriting and composed music for instrumentalists, acted in film and edited music videos. His expertise and belief that multi-media is the most powerful means to reach an audience and his focus on disciplinary studies of identity and art have translated into an international career spanning the globe with the Arab Flag by his side. With his boundary-breaking videos, his culture clash music and his passion for the arts and his work as a journalist, as well as the interviewee, Yassin (also known as the Narcicyst) is experienced as he is experiencing, touring the world for his self-titled LP The Narcicyst. Havind recently also released a book by the name THE DIATRIBES OF A DYING TRIBE, Narcy will be visiting our campus for a talk and a show! Make sure you dont miss it! The Narcicyst's show kicked off a one-day symposium: "September 11th Ten Years Later: The Impact on Muslims at Home and Abroad." The symposium feature a salon on Islamophobia, a round-table on music, art and media as activism; panel discussions on social, political and cultural issues in the post 9/11 era; a workshop hosted by CAIR-Houston on civil rights and Muslims in the USA. Come think hard about post-9/11 America with The Narcicyst and our other distinguished guests. This symposium took place in the McCombs Ballrooms from 9am-6pm on September 10th These events were part of a month-long series: "September 11, 2001: Memories, Legacies and Aftermaths Ten Years Later" Hosted by The Department of Religion.
