Protesters shut down Wells Fargo Bank in Richmond
About a dozen protesters shut down a Wells Fargo Bank during the lunch hour Wednesday.
The protest was organized by Alliance of Californians for Community Empowerment (ACCE), which also staged demonstrations at branches in Los Angeles, San Francisco, Oakland and San Diego.
The protests launched what ACCE calls a “campaign calling on Wells Fargo to enact a broad principal reduction program, reduce short sales and release data on borrowers helped by income and race.”
Bank officials in Richmond temporarily closed the doors at the 4300 Macdonald Ave. branch as the protesters marched in a circle and chanted, “Banks got bailed out, we got sold out.” Customers still used automated teller machines nearby. More…

On November 14th 2012, thousands of people took to the streets of Portugal as part of a European wide general strike. Until recently, the International Monetary Fund held Portugal as an ideal example of the effectiveness of austerity policies, but today, its economy is heading in the same direction as Greece and Spain. This short documentary details the week of the November 14th strike in Lisbon and the events surrounding it.
This is a rush edit of some selects from the general strike in Portugal. A more detailed report of the strike and of the situation in Portugal will be online soon at globaluprisings.org
Day one includes the celebratory arrival at the Vincci Hotel in Lisbon and a casual lunch on the famous rua augusta. Soaking up the atmosphere and live street entertainment, it was easy to loose yourself in the rich and historic culture of Portugal. Touring the classical city of Lisbon the day ends with a stop at the Belem Tower (Torre de Belem). Lisbon's Belem Tower was built from 1515 to 1520 and once served as a watchtower for Lisbon when it stood in the middle of the Tagus River. Portugal vacations are pleasant surprises offering the opportunity for relaxation along some of the most beautiful beaches in Europe and some of its richest history. Set to the western edge of Europe, Portugal is noted for its seafood cuisine, particularly in Lisbon. A ZGraphix Production. Produced by Jeff Zavala. http://zgraphix.org
Although they legally tied the knot in February with Justice of the Peace David Patronella presiding, Dr. Jessica Sheets and Dr. Lucho Rossman did the wedding-gown and broom-jumping thing in Lisbon, Portugal, with more than 60 friends and family as witnesses and with Gordon Bethune, former Continental Airlines CEO, officiating. The couple, both radiologists at Methodist Hospital, organized three days of activities surrounding the wedding ceremony including a champagne and port reception in Lisbon, a day tour to the picturesque town of Sintra, a lavish rehearsal dinner and the wedding at the opulent Pestana Palace Hotel. Presiding over the wedding ceremony was a first for Bethune, long-time squeeze of Rossman's sister Jessica Rossman. A fun aside: They found the broom in hotel housekeeping in order to include that tradition in the ceremony. Dinner and dancing followed in the adjoining stables (elaborately redesigned for swank soirées) where guests partied late into the night. A ZGraphix Production.
