On Acts of God & Men
it's my fifth day in the sunshine state, and our third day as the flagship independent media bus for the republican convention.
we've not seen a lot of action here yet on the front ... it rains ... and then it rains some more... and then more. there's been meetings and trainings for the protestors. i've watched golf carts being piggy-backed in on flat bed trucks by the dozen ... and there are hundreds, nay thousands of sections of barricades being erected to provide a "free speech" zone where citizens and protestors are to be corralled and controlled for their own "protection." there was the transfer of an entire population of inmates from a local jail, to make room for potential arrestees ... and the newest mainstream media hub bub: the suspicious discovery on a rooftop in the event zone, that ominously points to the threat of "anarchist violence," coupled with the circulation of a video by "anonymous," promising more of the same, which smacks of forgery to those who know the hallmarks of true anon representation.
let me get this straight. we are "independent" media because we are not corporately sponsored. we don't have to pretend that we are unbiased. we'll be honest and up front with you. we represent freedom of speech in action, and a will toward economic & social justice for the citizens of the world. we are like correspondants in some war torn country, we put our asses on the line, to fight the forces of oppression, who cower the citizens of this nation with fear... and believe me; while we abide the law, we also understand that we are often targeted for harassment at the very least. and arrest? well, it hangs like a fog in winter but does not deter our resolve. to buckle to fear, probable or possible, is to grant a win to the propaganda of the hate machine.
no thing, no corporate body, has their silver spoon down our throat, assuring that we will toe the line to their satisfaction. we do not wish to keep the masses sedated with fear or the subtle machinations of repressive oppression and disinformation. we don't smile into the camera as we cut to the next corporate sponsor, who also happens to be a subsidiary of haliburton, or koch, or ... well, hell, you get the message. we bring it to you live... and unedited, so that you can draw your own conclusions ... and when we edit it, we present it with the facts according to our own opinion, with a slant, just like corporate fed news. but we tell you these things honestly and upfront, without the illusion of objectivity. war is hell folks, and this, is the battle of our lives. the battle to maintain (or is that regain?) freedom, dignity, and peace, as we kick against the pricks who are driving us in a handcart to hell for the love of money and power and it's unbalanced acquisition.
as the helicopters hover over our bus like dragon flies on a hot summer day, and periodically light romneyville up like a public monument at night, issac is developing it's status ... into an act of god ... because mother nature, is just unhappy ... and she's raining on the charades of the republican national convention indiscriminately ... on all god's children, good or bad ... whether anarchist, democrat, independant, or libertarian, etc. & etc. the threat alone seems to be enough to keep the republicans at bay. the designated local hotels who had to with hold 90% of their rooms for the convention week, remain, sadly, unoccupied ... and there is rumor of a possible cancellation of the convention, if the storm enters the gulf ... but protestors who have been weathered in their struggles vow to be heard, and plan to remain regardless.
